What do I need to lead successfully?

There are no magic formulas for good leadership. At professore.de, based on our many years of experience in leadership development, we believe that leadership success isn't determined by any particular "leadership style" or the latest methods and tools. Instead, the leader's inner attitude and the prevailing company culture are the key factors. Leading and being led are mutually dependent. Leaders can only lead successfully if their company and employees allow it. Influencing factors include, for example, the performance opportunities and conditions the company creates for its employees, as well as the experiences employees have had with the company so far.

The leadership dilemma

Managers have to juggle three things at once:

Superior

Managers are, first and foremost, supervisors. This supervisory role must be fulfilled professionally. Managers are part of corporate management and, as such, responsible for the company's success. In traditional companies, they are responsible for directing, monitoring, and evaluating the activities of their employees, and they must make decisions, often under conditions of uncertainty.

Partners in social relationships

Secondly, managers must also be able to build informal relationships. As superiors, managers operate within the organizational hierarchy based on their positional power; they are in charge of their employees. However, this creates relationships and interactions in which managers and employees are interdependent and must build productive relationships if they are to be successful. They must build trust, foster development, offer support for self-help, and provide guidance.

Players in the corporate culture

Third, managers must align their leadership activities with the prevailing corporate culture and contribute to its improvement. It is not uncommon for good managers to fail because their concepts and decisions clash with the corporate culture.

Personnel management and corporate culture go hand in hand.

professore.de shows you how different management levels in your company interact and works with your managers to develop solutions. However, truly sustainable improvements can only be achieved if the company culture and outdated structures are also examined.

Example scenario: Imagine, for example, a company where managers learn in seminars how to motivate their employees to take more responsibility and demonstrate greater commitment. However, every day at lunchtime, the employees go to the self-service checkout in the cafeteria while in the executive lounge, elegant meals are served by smartly dressed staff. What would that mean for employee motivation and commitment?
