Understanding leadership – leadership knowledge every Friday
Guidebooks brim with tips on leading and letting lead—coaching stories, selling seminars, leadership in ten years—fresh and enriching. What I rarely find is solid leadership knowledge. Why is charismatic leadership still preached? Why is motivating staff still a core task? Why must leaders always be role models? For many, leadership knowledge is an unfinished building adorned with ever new turrets while foundations are forgotten. Clients deserve better foundations. Hence weekly posts offering another view: how we construct reality, how leaders create the employees they deserve, roots in Taylor's scientific management, images of humankind, motivation, communication and conversation analysis. Topics next year depend on your questions. See the matching bibliography. Comments welcome—after 20+ years there is no closed canon and no patent recipe; I am still searching.
